Elephants Visit London
Landmarks

Visitors to London at current will find it hard not to
notice a new addition to the capital’s wildlife with a herd of
elephants taking up residence in the City. But pigeons
and tourists need not worry about getting squashed as these are
only baby elephants and decorative ones at that.
Glistening with an array of patterns, each elephant within the
parade has been individually designed by top artists such as Sacha
Jafri and Sam Hacking. 260 elephants in total make up the
Exhibition that seeks to raise awareness of the dwindling numbers
of Asian elephants, falling from 200,000 a century ago to
approximately 40,000 today.
Individual elephants will be auctioned off on the 30th June by
the charity Elephant Family with the aim of raising GBP2 million
for the conservation of Asian elephants and UK conservation
charities.
The fiberglass elephants (standing at 1.5m (4.9ft) high)
have been seen grazing near to some of London’s most
recognisable landmarks including Buckingham Palace and St
Paul’s Cathedral, with over 20 elephants situated at More London
Place which is just in front of Tower Bridge.
