Royal Visit for Tower Bridge
Published: 24 February 2010
It was a dream come true for staff of Tower Bridge as Queen
Elizabeth II visited today ( 24.02.10) as part of a tour to meet
City of London workers. It was the first time a Royal had been
inside the Exhibition since Prince Charles visited in 1994 to
mark Tower Bridge's centenary
Arriving at Tower Bridge the City of London’s Chief Commoner
escorted her Majesty to the high level Walkways where Tower Bridge
staff stood eagerly awaiting.
The entire Walkways were filled with joyful smiles as her
Majesty was taken around to be introduced. Spending time to
personally greet each person her Majesty took a great interest in
the running of the Exhibition and the operational workings of the
Bridge.
The tour was completed when the Tower Bridge Bridge Master
escorted her Majesty to one of the Bridge’s Control Cabins. Here he
explained the system used to raise the powerful bascules of the
Bridge.
