Completed in 1894, Tower Bridge was instantly hailed as a London icon and one of the great engineering marvels of its age. Come inside to explore its history, uncover its secrets and to enjoy stunning views from its high-level Walkways, situated 42 metres above the River Thames.
- The Walkways offer fantastic views of many of London's most famous sights, including St Paul’s Cathedral, sky-scraping Canary Wharf, maritime Greenwich and The London Eye. Special viewing windows make photography easy.
- Films, displays and hands-on exhibits chart the fascinating history of Tower Bridge and how it has operated over the years.
- Victorian Engine Rooms house the original steam engines, awesome machines whose immense power once raised the bascules of the bridge. A “virtual bridge lift” shows how the bascules still rise today to let ships pass beneath the Walkways.
- Behind-the-scenes and private evening tours are available for pre-booked groups.
- Four enchanting venues within Tower Bridge are available for corporate hospitality, weddings and civil partnership ceremonies and other private events.

Restoring the Most Famous Bridge in the World
Have an Exciting Experience at Tower Bridge – Enjoy the Stunning Views from the Walkways, Explore the Engine Rooms and Witness the Transformation During this State of the Art Restoration.
Tower Bridge is undergoing an essential and exciting 3-year restoration programme of painting works and stone cleaning, during which Tower Bridge Exhibition is fully open. This special project only occurs once every quarter-century and is the first one of this millennium. Tower Bridge Exhibition and the views from the high-level Walkways will be unaffected by the first phase of the works - the only effect is the closure of to the access route to the venue areas via the south west pavement. All three other access routes from the east and west pavements on the north side of the Bridge and the east pavement on the South are open providing good access.
The first phase of the painting works will involve grit blasting back to base metal and re-coating all metalwork on the South Approach. This will take place from September 2008 to February 2009 and has already commenced with the erection of the scaffolding. Special Envirowraps are being applied to the scaffolded areas to prevent particles of paint or dust escaping into the natural environment in accordance with our sustainability policy. There will also be strict control of the noise caused by the works.
Watch this space for further updates on restoration progress. We look forward to seeing you at Tower Bridge Exhibition soon!
